U.S. Secretary of State Stresses the Value of Health and Nutrition Initiatives

John KerryIn his first major public address on investing in a strong foreign policy last week, U.S. Secretary of State, John Kerry spoke on the value of initiatives for health and nutrition which help to strengthen opportunities for the world's most marginalized.

"We value health and nutrition, and the principle of helping people gain strength to help themselves. Through cornerstone initiatives like Feed the Future, we help countries not only plant and harvest better food, but we also help them break the cycle of poverty, of poor nutrition, and of hunger," he said.

Feed the future is the US Government's Global Hunger and Food Security Initiative supporting country-driven approaches to address the root causes of hunger and poverty and forge long-term solutions to chronic food insecurity and undernutrition.

Kerry's address made the case for a robust foreign policy, emphasising the need to invest in foreign aid, “Let’s reach a responsible agreement that prevents these senseless cuts,” he said. “Let’s not lose this opportunity to politics.”
