PCD Nigeria Raise Awareness on Orange Flesh Sweet Potato Use – A Means to Combat Vitamin A Deficienc
As an advocate of Orange Flesh Sweet Potato (OFSP) and its means to combat vitamin A deficiency and food insecurity in Africa, Partnership for Child Development (PCD) Nigeria along with 28 participants from private sector, NGOs and OFSP experts representing Nigeria, Ghana and Burkino Faso recently attended a course on successfully raising awareness for OFSP projects.
The Trainers of Trainers (ToT) course titled, “Everything You Need to Know About Sweet Potato” aimed to build capacity of national implementing agencies (research bodies, NGOs) and senior extension personnel on the appropriate use and production of vitamin A rich OFSP in Nigeria.
A sensitization workshop aimed at enhancing a structure and predictable market for Osun State, School Feeding programme (O’Meals) was recently carried out by the Government of Osun State and Partnership for Child Development (PCD), Imperial College London across six of the State's regions.
Attended by 750 participants comprising school feeding supply chain beneficiaries including, farmer cooperative groups, cocoyam buyers and food vendor cooperative groups the workshop focused on establishing links between these stakeholders for improved cooperation and efficiently in programme delivery.
Osun State's Home Grown School Feeding programme which has been implemented since 2012 currently feeds over 200,000 pupils in public primary schools in the state, with meals sourced from local smallholder farmers.

Nestle Nigeria Plc has trained no fewer than eighty-four primary school teachers drawn from twenty-eight public schools located in the twenty Local Government Areas on nutrition teaching techniques required to combat prevalence of dehydration among Nigerians, especially children of school age under Nestle Healthy Kids’ Programme.
The teachers’ training workshop tagged, “Nestle Healthy Hydration Teachers’ Workshop’’, according to Martin Woolnough, managing director of Nestle Nigeria plc, was to equip primary school teachers with required nutrition teaching techniques that would be deployed to educate pupils with knowledge and understanding of hydration and importance of water to life.

The Governor of the State of Osun, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola has been commended for improving the quality of lives as well as the standard of education in the state through the Elementary School Feeding and Health programme which has provided employment and tremendously increasing pupils enrolment figure in all public primary schools in the state.
The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Mr. Olufemi Fawole, gave the commendation during the State Steering Committee Meeting of Elementary School Feeding and Health Programme held at the Conference room of the O'meal office.
Mr. Fawole then charged the committee members to brace up in their responsibility of monitoring the success, development and challenges of the Elementary School Feeding and Health Programme because they are the highest decision making body of the programme.

The Osun State Government on Friday said it de-wormed no fewer than 252,793 public primary school pupils in 30 Local Government Areas, and Ife East Area Office in Osun State, Nigeria on July 10 2013. Governor Rauf Aregbesola said this at the launching of de-worming of elementary school pupils in Osogbo.
Represented by Titilayo Tomori, the Deputy Governor and Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Mr. Aregbesola said that 252,793 had benefited from the exercise. He commended Chi Pharmaceuticals Limited, Lagos, for collaborating with the state government to ensure the success of the exercise. He said that the intestinal worms had negative impact on education as it hinders child development and school attendance.
